What's different here?

Jeee moi kaikki! Ollaan tässä mietitty, että mikä kaikki sitten Kööpenhaminassa/Tanskassa ylipäätään on erilaista kuin meillä kotona Suomessa. // Yaaay hi everybody! We've been thinking about the things that are different here in Copenhagen/Denmark than they are in Finland.

-Pyöräilykulttuuri. Kaikki pyöräilee. Pyöräilijät on myös etuoikeutettuja liikenteessä ja niitä pitää oikeesti varoa!
//Biking culture. Everybody here uses bikes. Bikers are also privileged in many ways and they will not watch out for cars or people who are walking.

-Ovet. Ne aukee väärään suuntaan. Aina.
//Doors. They open the exact opposite way you think they would. Always.

-Kahvilat. Suomessa tilatut asiat tuodaan pöytään tai saat ne heti tiskillä. Täällä haet tilaamasi asiat tiskiltä, kun tilauksesi huudetaan - tanskaksi..
//Cafes. In Finland your orderings are brought to your table or you will get them right away. Here you will get them from the counter when they tell you - in Danish.

-Joukkoliikenne. Se ei vaan toimi :D
//Public transportation. It just doesn't work :D

-Voileivät. Leipien päälle laitetaan niin paljon kaikkee, ettei ne mahdu suuhun, joten ne täytyy syödä veitsen ja haarukan kanssa.
//Sandwiches. You put so much stuff on the bread that it wont fit into your mouth, so you're gonna have to eat them with knife and fork.

-Perjantait. Kaikki on kaljalla perjantaisin. Se nyt ei vielä eroa Suomesta, mutta täällä koulut järjestää "perjantaibaareja". Tarjotaan siis tilat käyttöön ihmisille, että voivat juopotella. Ikäraja on 16 vuotta.
//Fridays. Everybody drink beer on Fridays. This itself makes no difference to what's it like in Finland, but here schools arrange "Friday bars" meaning they will give the place for people to drink. Age limit for drinking is 16 years.

-Raha. Kolikoissa on reikiä ja sydämiä.
//Money. Coins have holes and hearts.

-Pistorasiat. Niissä on hymynaama.
//Wall plugs. Have smiley faces.

-Asiakaspalvelu. Ei toimi. Kukaan ei edes halua ymmärtää sua, jos sanot sanan väärin. Poikkeuksia on aina, mutta noin muuten.
//Customer service. Does not work. Nobody wants to understand you, if you say a word in a wrong way.

-Työpöydät. Tää nyt liittyy vaan meidän alaan, mutta työpöydät on myyntitiloissa, eikä esimerkiksi toisessa huoneessa. Jännä.
//Desks. This only has something to do with our work, but the desks are inside the shop and not in a different room.

-Koirat. Niitä on kahdenlaisia; pienet ja valkoiset ja sitten isompia lyttykuonoja.
//Dogs. There are two kinds of dogs here; little white ones and bigger ones with short snouts.

-Kyltit ja kuulutukset. Molemmat on vain tanskaksi ja saa hakee aika kauan, että löytää sen pienen englanniksi kirjoitetun kohdan.
//Signs and announcements. Both of them are only in Danish. Takes a while to find the little sign where it's written in English.

-Maisema. Täällä on tasaista, ihan niinkuin Pohjanmaalla! Tuulimyllyjä on myös aika paljon.
//Landscape. It's flat here, just like it is in Ostrobothnia. Windmills are not that rare.

-Rakennukset. Korkeita kattoja kaikkialla, lähinnä omakotitaloissa. Moderni arkkitehtuuri on aika isossa roolissa.
//Buildings. High roofs everywhere. Modern architecture is big here!

Viikko ilman Maria

Me ollaan oltu viikko ilman Maria täällä. Nyt vaan kuvapläjäys kaikesta mitä ollaan tehty.

Days nine and ten

Viikonloppuna oli tarkoitus saada valmiiksi vihkot mitä olimme aloitelleet viime viikolla. Kirjoista puuttuivat enää vain kannet, ja käytimme kansia vanhoista kirjoista joita Mari oli löytänyt ja keräillyt. Jotkin olivat liian pieniä tai suuria, joten jouduimme hieman säätelemään kirjojen kansia. Jenni onnistuikin vahingossa leikkaamaan itseään sormeen skalppelilla, onneksi ei käynyt kovin pahasti kun kuitenkin käsitellään todella teräviä välineitä. Käytimme pirteän värisiä teippejä vahvistamaan kansia ja onnistuttiin saamaan ne aika hyvään kuntoon.
// On the weekend we were meant to finish up the notebooks we had started making last week. The notebooks were only missing the covers and we used old books that Mari had found and collected. Most of them were either too small or too big so we had to tinker with them a bit. Jenni cut herself accidentally with a scalpel, but luckily not that badly 'cos we're using very sharp tools. We used very perky coloured tape to strengthen the covers and got them into an alright state.

Seuraavana päivänä värjäsimme kansiin koristeita spraymaalilla. Tehtiin homma ulona koska oli hieno aurinkoinen päivä. Kannet onnistuivat aika hienosti ja jäljellä oli enää kuminauhjen kiinnitys. Jouduimme odottelemaan maalin kuivumista ja kun olimme vihdoin valmiit kello oli jo aika paljon. Marin oli pakko lähteä kaupunkiin pakkaamaan reissuaan varten joten lähdimme yhdeksän maissa ajamaan takaisin Kööpenhaminaa.
// On the next day we coloured the decorations on the covers using spray paint. We did that outside since it was nice and a sunny day. The covers turned out pretty good and the only job left was to tie rubber bands to the book covers. We had to wait for the paint to dry so when we were finished it was pretty late. Mari had to go back to the city to pack for her trip so we drove back to Copenhagen after nine.
